GOURD GALLERY
Gourds are the fruit of various plants used
by man for centuries. Their interesting shapes and mottled
shell offer a wonderful canvas upon which to work.
These naturally grown gourds have been designed, cut and decorated
according to their specific shape. No two are exactly alike. The animals and fish
I paint on them are inspired by my surroundings. Living on a ranch near
Yellowstone National Park and the famous trout stream, the Madison
River, it is easy to see how these images appear on my gourds.
Either pine needles naturally shed from the
Montana state tree, the Ponderosa Pine, or philodendron leaf sheaths are coiled around the gourd rims and secured with waxed linen.
My gourds are coated with several layers of protective finish.
Each piece is signed and dated.
