I began my weaving career by replacing cane seats in
antique chairs, but soon felt the need to be more creative.
After meeting a basket weaver and viewing his work, I knew this was
what I wanted to do. The lack of any nearby basket classes forced me
to teach myself these skills. Now, twenty years later, I am still experimenting,
learning and captivated with the art. By altering traditional basket styles,
techniques and materials, I enjoy designing and weaving pieces that are unique.
Decorating gourds is a newer art form for me, but no less pleasurable.
The animals I paint on them are inspired by my surroundings.
By living on a ranch near Yellowstone National Park and the famous trout stream,
the Madison River, it is easy to see how these images appear on my gourds.
Whether using a gourd, driftwood, dogwood osiers, bark,
or other found materials, incorporating nature's
treasures into a composition is a gratifying challenge.
I reside with my husband and many critters
on our family ranch in Cameron, Montana.
